Grains of hope

The DGCI has recently approved a drug for COVID 19- a drug which looks like grains of sand. This is an indigenous drug developed by the DRDO itself. So what's this drug all about ?

Hark! The name does not have a ‘vir ‘ nor is it fancy like others . What is it ?

Its an antimetabolite. That means that its not fancy like other drugs , and looks like salt , but its a good enough to stop the virus. And so much good that they are telling that it might be the new wonder drug in itself — cheap , efficacious and produced in our country itself . So no going into vested diplomacy with other countries.

How does it work ?

It competes with glucose for the entry into the cell and like kids competing for a turn at the slide. This smart fellow will accumulate inside cells of virus and stops them from making energy. How would you feel without breakfast ?

And what else ?

This fellow accumulates in the lungs of COVID patients and suppresses viral multiplication too.

Nice nice. So it looks like salt, we can have it with water ,its DESI ( indian word for indegenous ) and its efficacious . So should I start hoarding it like potatoes and lemons? Should I see if Dunzo will send it home ? Should I have it in the morning with my tea?

Now that’s what I don’t like .

This so called wonder drug is given in moderate to severe infection, my pal, and not in your breakfast , especially if you are asymptomatic. And also it is an adjunct. That means its not the only thing to be given — and definitely not with breakfast or tea.

OK , OK . You got me excited. What should I do now ?

The same thing that everyone is doing. Mask up and stay at home . Lets face COVID with a mask and not self medication. And definitely not hearsay. The scientists are working and trials are being done daily on these drugs . Just be careful and follow authentic news .

Got it thanks sir. I’ll go and do my gardening then. What if I’m digging up the next DAXY glucose in the soil ?
